Carmit Katz, Prof.
Deputy CEO of the Haruv Institute
Carmit Katz is a social worker and faculty member at the Bob Shappel School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Katz’s field of expertise is childhood abuse and neglect. She researches and works in this field in four main axes: dialogue with child victims of abuse; development and promotion of services and interventions for children affected by family trauma; study of family dynamics in abusive situations; and prevention of abuse.
Prof. Katz believes that preventing abuse and neglect is a moral obligation, and that the actions of professionals from all disciplines must stem from a dialogue with the children themselves within their life contexts. These beliefs form the foundation of all her work.
Prof. Katz is the founder of the Israeli Public Committee for Policy Change on Child Sexual Abuse, and the founder of the International Group of Scholars Protecting Children from Maltreatment During COVID-19. ISPCAN has recognized the group as a leading consortium for promoting children’s rights during a global pandemic.
Prof. Katz is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Child Maltreatment published by Springer
