Call for proposals - Children in times of war
Editors-in-Chief: Professor Carmit Katz and Dr Jill McLeigh
The International Journal on Child Maltreatment: Research, Policy and Practice is seeking proposals for an upcoming special issue on children during times of war. Though children should be protected under international law during wartime, across the globe, children are instead disproportionately impacted by war, suffering from both direct and indirect effects. Moreover, recent wars around the world, including those in Sudan, Ukraine, and Israel, have highlighted the dangers posed to children in modern warfare, with children facing grave violations and a host of negative war-related consequences. This special issue is interested in topics focused on children during wartime that may help inform and improve research, policy, and practice efforts to protect children, support their well-being, empower their voices, and uphold their rights.
Topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following examples:
-
Child abduction and hostage-taking during war
-
The impacts of war on children’s health and well-being
-
Protective and risk factors for children’s health and well-being during war
