Ma’avarim – Family and Marriage Counseling and Therapy

Ma’avarim is a department in the Community Services Administration of the Jerusalem Municipality’s Welfare Branch, which provides the city’s residents with family and marriage counseling and therapy. Its staff includes social workers, parental coordinators, family and marriage counselors, and more.

We aim to strengthen parental commitment and responsibilities, while looking out for the minor’s best interests. Our therapeutic unit offers treatment for couples and families who seek to improve their marital relationship and/or parenting; parenting coordination – a program for parents interested in improving their parental communication following separation or divorce; and therapeutic intervention for families in entrenched post-separation parenting disputes.

The department operates a Legal Procedure Unit that accompanies families during divorce and is subject to judicial orders dictating submission of opinion and recommendations pertaining to custody and visitation issues. Professional opinions are also provided regarding the need to appoint a guardian for wards with a background of mental disturbance or illness.

This unit provides assistance in other areas, such as marriage of a minor, paternity tests, name change, and requests for immigration.
