Mayis is a bachelor’s (BSW) and master of social work (MSW). Currently a PhD student at the School of Social Work of the Hebrew University, she researches into cumulative trauma in preschool children removed from home by court order due to abuse and neglect. For six years, Mayis managed the only emergency shelter in Israel for preschool children at risk, located in East Jerusalem and serving the country’s entire Arab population. Among others, she managed a boarding school for girls at risk as well as an emergency center and mentored both social workers and students.
